Anaya’s Thumb
CREATING IMAGES WITH HIDDEN MESSAGES
A common plight faced by every parent was taken up as the theme for the story. Little Anaya loves sucking her thumb, but finally realizes itโs not fun! This got me thinking whether the crux of the story could be captured through visuals that worked as a cue. How do I tell a little child that thumbs and fingers can be used for so many playful activities? While working on the visuals I began to use my thumbs to make textures, backgrounds, animals and figures. The story had a happy, but nuanced style with a motley of thumb prints across the pages.
