This serendipitous collection of experiences, signs, stories, styles and patterns visually archive the journey of Serendip into Ceylon and later Sri Lanka. Some photos document historic monuments that bear testimony to the different communities and religions that permeated and settled in Ceylon. Jamia - Al - Alfar, the optically illusional mosque built by Indian Muslim traders at Pettah in the 1900’s; the Temple of the Tooth & Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara affirming a society that's rooted in Buddhism; The Seetha Amman temple, the worlds first temple paying hommage to Goddess Seetha and commemorating the land where Ramayana culminated. Other photos share narratives of present day Sri Lanka - like the onset of Chinese vehicles and machinery into Colombo, profitable produce of coastal seafood and tea due to its terrain and positioning on the trade routes of the world. These images were taken over the western, central and southern provinces of Sri Lanka covering my journey across Colombo, Kandy, Sigiriya, Dambulla caves, Nuwara Eliya and Akurla.
